Tests show PFAS, dioxin-like chemicals in Otsego-area wells

OTSEGO, MI -- The Department of Environmental Quality has received test results that show the presence of more contaminants in Otsego-area water wells, all below government-set health advisory levels, though the validity of some test results are being questioned.
The DEQ released a summary of test results to MLive/Kalamazoo Gazette on Thursday, Oct. 18, through a Freedom of Information Act request, that show the chemicals found in 62 residential wells tested in the area.
Dioxin-like chemicals were found in each of the 62 wells tested, though none were above the government's health advisory levels, DEQ Remediation and Redevelopment Division Kalamazoo District Supervisor Dave Heywood said on Oct. 19.
The presence of dioxin-like chemicals was surprising, Heywood said, partly because it is rare to find it in water
