VA’s Post Deployment Health Services (PDHS) Epidemiology Program
researched the link between past use of anti-malarial medications, including
mefloquine, and self-reported physical and mental health conditions among
recent Veterans. They found that combat and deployment may negatively influence
physical and mental health more than the use of antimalarial medications.
Researchers used data from 19,487 participants in the National Health
Study for a New Generation of US Veterans, a large-scale study of OEF/OIF era
Veterans.
